The Modern Art and Contemporary Art Museum, also called MAMAC has been dedicated to modern art and contemporary art since its opening on June 21st 1990 in Nice. In 2010, the museum has received 162.591 visitors, which made it the second most visited site in Nice. You can discover its permanent collections and a temporary exhibition program.
The Theater of Photographs and Pictures
The Theater of Photographs and Pictures is located in the former “Théâtre de l’Artisitique”, at the center of Nice. This location has preserved the charm and refinement of the Belle Epoque and has been dedicated to the promotion and distribution of photograph and picture art since 1999. Six rooms offer to display all trends, from photo-journalism to plastic photograph, from 19th century photographs to current digital techniques.
The Chagall Museum
The Marc-Chagall Museum is a national museum devoted to the work of the painter Marc Chagall, one of the most famous artists who settled in France during the 20th century, along with Pablo Picasso. His work, which does not belong to any particular school, includes surrealist and neo-primitivist characteristics.
The Matisse Museum
Matisse was a French painter, drawer, engraver and sculptor. As a major figure of the 20th century, he influenced the art world considerably during the second part of the century, through the use of simplification, stylization, synthesis and color as the core subject of the painting. Many figurative or abstract painters would go on to align themselves with him and his work. He was the leader of Fauvism. From Pablo Picasso, who was his friend and considered him his greatest competitor, to Andy Warhol, who “wanted to be Matisse”, every 20th century painter encountered the glory and genius of Matisse.
The Oceanographic Museum of Monaco
The Oceanographic Museum of Monaco was founded in 1889 by the Prince Albert I of Monaco. It is one of the most imposing building on the Rock along with the Palace of Monaco, and the only one to be on the cliff-side and to go 85 meter down to the sea . It is now made of 90 tanks and its collection includes 350 species of fish, and over 6000 specimens. The Shark Lagoon reveals the diversity of the coral reef populated with a multitude of tropical fish and living corals.
The Nautical Club of Nice
At the center of Nice, in a unique setting, come and enjoy the best place to do nautical sports: sailing, rowing, power boating, swimming. Open to all; beginners, people looking for some fun or some competition, the Club nautique de Nice is an association which provides its services and equipment to promote nautical activities and makes them accessible to everyone.
